Yuza Special Blend Japanese Whisky 700ml
Established in 2018, Yuza is the first modern distillery to be founded in the Yamagata prefecture. Yuza uses primarily non-peated malt, however they have laid down several heavily peated batches.
The distillery's location near the Sea of Japan provides an abundance of soft water from snowmelt and underground springs and the area experiences a massive 40°C average temperature difference over the year. The new make has been described as full-bodied but chiseled with beautiful barley sugar, tempura batter and under-ripe fruit notes.
Opening with an aromatic nose of green apple, stewed rhubarb, and baked pastry, lifted by fresh mint and light tea. On the palate, it delivers a smooth, clean texture filled with creamy Jersey caramel, sweet honey, and stone fruits that transition into a prominent wave of aromatic Mizunara spice, sandalwood, and coconut. This develops into a medium finish that leaves a warm, woody trail of soft oak and lingering honeyed sweetness.
