This is The Wine of the Autumn 2019 releases from Yarra Yering, hands down. It’s also the most effortless, pure and fruit-driven wine of the collection. Having just seen a raft of Bordeaux and cabernets at various events over various tastings in the last various weeks, this is a high water mark. It puts the N in Noble Variety.
A compelling wine in every sense, with fragrance, flavour, texture, length, drinkability, succulence, sense of finesse writ large. Just shy of medium weight, supple and then tight, held to its fine, filigreed shape with ribbons of ultra fine, graphite-minerally yet distinct tannins, pure black berry-blue berry fruits, pepper, brown spice, faint malt-cedar oak and layers of green herbs. It’s unreal. It sits in the palate with such pleasurable texture, lingers with freshness and loveliness, would make a novice sit up and take notice. It’s got the x-factor but doesn’t brag about it.
