Stoney Rise Savagnin 2024
A wonderful Aussie expression of the Jura native Savagnin, but in a modern, clean style. Playing on lifted acidity, texture and Savagnin’s saline and mineral edge, Joe’s rendition is expressive and precise. Nashi pear, and kiwi fruit aromas, with a salty and saline mouthfeel. There’s structure and excitement about it.
Savagnin sourced from Spreyton in Tasmania’s northwest. Pale straw. Poached pear, grapefruit and citrus fruits with hints of meadow herbs, wildflowers, ginger cake, clotted cream, crushed stone and almond paste. Textural and energetic on the palate with a wonderful, chalky palate presence and a long, citrusy extended draw on the exit. 94 points. Dave Brooks, Wine Companion Sep 2024
