Stargazer Single Vineyard Riesling 2023
The 8th Stargazer Riesling to come from a single vineyard site located in the Tea Tree subregion of the Coal River Valley. Planted in 2004 to a density of 5000 vines to the hectare, there is a mix of 4 clones on dark clay on Jurassic dolerite. Hand harvested prior to destemming and skin contact for 8 hours prior to gentle pressing. Wild fermented in stainless steel over a period of 6 weeks - with six extra weeks on lees prior to blending and then bottling in August.
Fine riesling, verging on exceptional. Aromas of granny smith granita, lime sherbet, ginger and spiced quince. The acidity, a juicy balancing beam as the wine twists, turns and meanders across the wave of fruit intensity, staining the cheeks. A judicious dollop of sugar, draped across the finish mitigates severity, while promoting juiciness. Super length. Drink or hold. Screw cap. 94 Points - Ned Goodwin
