Seppeltsfield The Northing Barossa Shiraz 2021
The Grounds Collection is inspired by a study conducted by Barossa Australia, bringing together winemakers, grape growers and climatic science experts, to evaluate and identify the variations of Barossa Shiraz across all four points of the compass. Further to this, our interpretation demonstrates unique terroir down to site, showcasing Single Vineyard expressions of Shiraz. Our terminology - ‘Northing’, ‘Easting’, ‘Southing’, ‘Westing’, is inspired by mapmaking, referring to the deviation or distance in the respective direction. VINEYARD The 2021 ‘The Northing’ Single Vineyard Barossa Shiraz is grown on the northern side of the Barossa. This single vineyard site, known as the ‘Katingi’ vineyard, is near the town of Stockwell and planted on red-brown earth, over a medium clay loam.
The 2021 ‘The Northing’ Single Vineyard Barossa Shiraz was fermented through the historic 1888 Gravity Cellar. Built into the hillside on a series of terraces, gravity guides the flow of fruit down through the winery to deliver gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannin. Matured for 14 months in new and seasoned French oak hogsheads.
Aromatic with dark fruits and dark chocolate shavings. The palate is incredibly tight / taut palate, stylish drive of fruit with long length.
