SC Pannell Koomilya JC Block Shiraz 2019
Tasting all three Koomilya Block wines side by side, it's impossible not to compare and contrast them stylistically, while simultaneously applauding the diversity and clarity that has been coaxed from the dirt and the grapes. This 2019 was my favourite of the three excellent wines. The 2019 Koomilya JC Shiraz is made from fruit planted on ironstone, and there’s a blood/sanguine/kelp/nori/iodine character that basically bowls me over. It's that good. What an incredible wine, with salted licorice, tannins and a massive YES. This is a wine of place, through and through. (These Koomilya Block wines—GT, DC and JC—are all made the same way in order to preface and promote the variation and diversity of the sites: handpicked, 20% whole bunches in the wild ferments, low sulphur, no new oak.) Drink 2022 - 2039.
