Robert Chevillon Nuits Saint Georges 2019

Domain Chevillon was started in the early 1900s by Symphorien Chevillon who started working approximately thirty acres of vines in Nuits-Saint-Georges giving the Domaine his surname that has lasted generations. The finesse and complexity of their spread of wines are appreciated throughout the world, and from a region that does not posses any grand cru rated vineyards, Chevillon are seen as a true benchmark of the appellation. The 2019 is quite cool and restrained on the nose, subtle red berries, currants with a fine layer of spice and light purple flowers. Sprightly, medium to full weighted palate elegant of texture on a fresh yet muscular frame. Good depth and length now whilst young which will develop nicely with some cellaring should you not be able to hold out.

The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières is similarly promising, mingling aromas of wild berries and cassis with notions of licorice, dark chocolate and spices. Medium to full-bodied, bright and chalky, with a tightly wound core, powdery tannins and a long, mineral finish, it's very true to type. Bertrand Chevillon reported yields some 50% below average in 2019 but was justly delighted with the quality of the wines. This is another powerful, structured vintage at this address, but the wines are more vibrant than the fine 2018s and more structurally refined, too. As I've written before, this is one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy. Old vines, cultivated soils, moderate yields and long fermentations with entirely destemmed grapes are the order of the day at this address, with the Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes seeing some 20% new oak and the premiers crus 30%. Nuits' Tonnellerie Sirugue is the dominant supplier of barrels.  92-94 points Wine Advocate

This too is aromatically cool and elegant with its pretty array of slightly more elegant essence of ripe red berry fruit aromas that reflects hints of spice, earth and wood. The succulent but decidedly punchy medium weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the beautifully well-delineated, powerful and serious finale. The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Perrières 1er Cru has a very intense and almost exotic bouquet of raspberry confit, fig and marmalade scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Slightly savory in quality, it delivers a gamy finish; it will be intriguing to see whether this remains after bottling. 91-93 points Vinous
