TOP QUALITY Consistently among the top wines in the appellation for me, this was particularly successful in 2021. The fruit character blends the citrus and the tropical, with notes of lime, gooseberry and passion fruit, alongside tarragon, clove and smoke. The texture is dense and concentrated, yet the wine is exquisitely balanced and never seems heavy. It is produced from a 0.5ha plot of 100-year-old vines near the top of the slope. This is a precious family vineyard as it is over 100 years old, planted just after the first World War. Alas, here the Niellons made two rather than 12 barrels. Yet, this is a stunner with attractive reduction, pear core, green apple and earthy nuance. The fruit purity is exquisite. The wine feels linear and tight on the palate, so just give this some time. 94 points Tim Atkin
Pale lemon colour. There is almost no nose at all at first. Not to worry. In the mouth this shows its usual beautiful qualities. As ever a cut above the rest.
