Mulline Curlewis Riesling 2022
We don’t often document the full winemaking process but this one is interesting, and worth quoting. Handpicked fruit was “left in the cool room overnight. The fruit was then whole bunch pressed to tank, where the wine was racked with soft lees the next day and fermented naturally in the 10 degree room over the course of two weeks. Once the sugar levels and acid balance was chosen, the wine was then transferred to a 1 degree room and the ferment was left to stop naturally for a week before being sulphured. The final residual sugar was 28g/l. The wine was then left on lees for four months with no movement.” The riesling vines at Curlews were planted in 2001.
It’s a beautiful wine. Soft and piercing at once. Mineral, steel, red and green apple, florals, apple core and lemonade. There’s sweetness of course but it’s beautifully judged and balanced; principally, it feels refreshing. 93 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
