The Matrot Blagny Rouge La Piece sous le Bois premier cru, just like its neighbour Meursault-Blagny Premier Cru Blanc, is strongly distinguished by its limestone terroir. It is one of the very few appellations in the Cote de Beaune where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir happily grow side by side on the same plot. Dark and intense fruits dominate the spicy notes that follow on the nose. It is full-bodied with rich tannins and surprises the palate with its minerality and energy.
'This is also distinctly cool, pure and airy with its expressive nose of essence of red pinot fruit and discreet floral wisps. The gorgeously textured barely middleweight flavors are not dense but they are super-sleek, polished and refined before terminating in a bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that displays sneaky good length.
