Marcarini Barolo La Serra 2016 Magnum
Dark red core with black tinged edges and a rusty brick red hue. The nose features a fragrant mix of red and dried cherries intermeshed with tobacco, dried herbs, earth, hints of leather and subtle balsamic notes. Light to mid weight the rustic palate features a chewy profile of dried cherries, earthy tobacco characters, dried herbs and balsamic like infusions. Dry, austere finish with a stern tannin structure, bright acidity and a long taut, grippy aftertaste that sees the emergence of some leather characters.
A Barolo with such intense, fine-grained tannins, yet it’s so deep and poised with polish and energy. Full-bodied, yet it remains agile and layered. Strawberries, bark, hazelnuts and hints of rose petals. Give this four or five years in the bottle, at least. But a classic wine. 97 points jamessuckling.com
All about finesse, this ethereally elegant red opens with scents of rose, crushed mint, red berry and hints of new leather. The polished, precise palate features strawberry compote, spiced cranberry, star anise and a dash of white pepper. It's well balanced, with fresh acidity and taut, refined tannins. Drink 2024–2036. 95 points Kerin O'Keefe - Wine Enthusiast
