Lodali was started by Giovanni Lodali, a peasant in Treiso who in 1939 began to make wine for the customers at his small restaurant, the only one existing in what was then a small village. After the war Giovanni constructed a house and large cellar, this being the period which created the roots and hopes for the Lodali family.

In 1958 Giovanni's son Lorenzo, along with his wife Rita, produced his first vineyard selection in Barbaresco and Barolo, doing well enough to sell wine abroad. In 1982 Lorenzo passed away, and Rita did her best with her newborn son Walter to continue on the Lodali legacy.

Walter, third generation now carries on the family name with holdings in Treiso within Barbaresco and Bric Sant' Ambrogio in Roddo within Barolo. These are classically produced wines - precise, intensely perfumed, elegant and driven. 

The 2025 Dolcetto is exclusively from Barbaresco vineyards within the Treiso commune. Hand harvested, fermented in stainless steel tanks on skins for 8-10 days, then aged for 3 months prior to bottling.

There's amazing vibrancy in the glass – the colour alone is outstanding. Super perfumed aromatics of wood herbs, red apple skin, blood plum, morello cherry and red licorice. This is genuinely serious dolcetto – sleek through its mid, slightly darker than the aromatics portray bit with these really lifted pink top notes. It’s decidedly ferric and driven with tannins more akin to Nebbiolo finishing beautifully savoury, and incredibly moreish.
