Littorai Thieriot Chardonnay 2022
Chardonnay yields fell significantly in 2022 due to the very cool spring. Unlike the drawn out 2021 harvest we picked all the chardonnay sites between September 2nd and 8th. Brix (sugar level) at harvest were in the typical range for Littorai but like the 2020s and 2021s, the 2022s were not as high in acidity as the 2018s and 2019s. Malolactic fermentations finished by late spring except for Thieriot which lingered until the fall. The 2022s are delicate, complex wines with good richness. They display excellent balance between richness and acidity and are very approachable.
This wine shows great aromatic volume already. Aromas of honeydew melon, lemon peel, yellow rose, chamomile, linden and green teas. A hint of the wet seashells here. This is a very precise wine with great energy, spikey acidity, and a very long finish. A hint of phenolics lends flair to the finish. As usual the most edgy of the Littorai chardonnay bottlings.
