L'Anima Halara Nero d'Avola Grenache 2024
Inspired by the Nero d’Avola blends of distant shores, represented by the fichi d’india on the label - symbolic to those shores but also growing next to Nero d’Avola vineyard here.
This wine brings together Nero from Tatachilla and Grenache from Blewitt Springs. Fermented separately using different techniques and then brought together to mature in large Slavonian oak. No fining. 900 bottles made.
"This bloke is an outstanding winemaker I feel. Has the touch. It’s so good to drink, and yes it has a distinctly Italianate twist to it. Raspberry, redcurrant, cherry, a smattering of dried herb, something a bit steely here too, lovely perfume, some red liquorice. Medium-bodied, crisp cranberry acidity, bright with juicy mixed berry flavour, a subtle amaro twang, cool feel to acidity, light pumice stone tannin, finishing with excellent length. So nice. Highly recommended.” 94 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
“60/40% Nero d’Avola/Grenache, with the former from Tatachilla (destemmed) and the grenache (100% whole bunch) off Bondar’s Rayner vineyard; 12 months in larger Slavonian oak. Inspired by some legendary medium-weighted Sicilian wines, this also does what many top Italian wines do, by enmeshing fruit sweetness into savouriness. Amaro herbs, black cherry, wild red berries, redcurrant, dried rose, roasted chestnut, leather, dried mint, ground ginger and star anise, all sitting in at medium weight, transparent, with a pleasing snap of acidity and cool tannin to close. Such a joy to drink, marrying wildness and composure, and even better with food. L’Anima is such an exciting new player, with wines of thoughtful detail sans ego.” 95 Points - Marcus Ellis, Halliday
