Andrew Kenny is a winemaker with Pikes, and in his spare time has a lovely property in the Clare Valley where he farms some Riesling as well as Sangiovese and Shiraz.

This is Polish Hill River fruit, picked slightly earlier than the dry Polish Hill bottling to retain a bit of extra acidity to counter the residual sugar. Small portion is crushed prior to pressing to get more solids for a healthier, less reductive ferment. Fermentation is carried out by wild yeast, in stainless steel and large old oak, with light fluffy lees - and is stopped by chilling with around 40-45g/L of sugar. A classically German expression from Andrew's experience working in the Pfalz.

This is easily in the top handful of off-dry Riesling expressions in Australia! Intensely aromatic with beautiful florals, flat lemonade, chalk dust, lime blossom and citrus zest, you can see the crushed fruit component adding texture and phenolic weight through the mid palate, balancing beautifully with the weight from the residual sugar. It reads way higher in sweetness than the palate shows, with beautifully pitched acidity balancing this and driving it through the mid to back palate. A cracker from a cracking bloke!
