Sourced from the Saddleback Vineyard - most commonly known as a source block for Chapoutier's Australian bottlings. This is classic cool-climate Syrah in every sense of the style - extremely alluring nose, full of blood plum, dark wood spice, bay and black fruit, accented by red floral hues, it requires a little bit of air to let this all come to life, but its worth it, and the complexing notes of iodine and charcuterie come to the fore. Its entry to the palate is powerful, with intense brooding fruit, but this shouldn't be warranted as being 'big' - the fruit is intensely dark, yet carries itself incredibly gracefully, with swathes of mineral laden, black pepper spice, and cocoa dust enveloping the mid, whilst its beautifully pitched core of acid continues a merry dance down the line. Then there is the tannin. Ferric, blood in the mouth tannin, balanced against the vibrant mineral finish. It's very "Northen Rhone" and very bloody delicious.
