Jean Marc Pillot Bourgogne Blanc Le Haut des Champs 2022
After training at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune and completing his military service, Jean- Marc joined his father, Jean Pillot, in 1985, making his first vintage in new premises in the industrial zone close to Chagny in 1991. He has increased his domaine since then from five hectares to 11 hectares. Jean-Marc’s son Antonin has now joined the business.
Mix of domaine grapes from Chassagne-Montrachet and Côte Chalonnaise, with purchased grapes from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits and below Puligny. This has been the typical blend since 2019.
Incredibly intense nose of acacia blossom, white and yellow orchard fruits, fresh cream and flint - it's generous and playful yet poised aromatically. The palate shows the growth of the domaine over the last 5-10 years, straddling a fine line between power and weight balanced with tension and verve. There's a wonderful interplay between extract and acid here - framing the beautifully pitched, pithy yellow fruit with tantalisingly vibrant energy. Great value!
Racked and blended in tank. Pale lemon yellow. A lightly sulphured bouquet, levels having recently been adjusted. Fresh apple fruit with just a little flesh too. Promising. Drink from 2024-2025. Tasted: October 2023. 86-88 Points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
