Jean Marc Pillot Bourgogne Blanc Le Haut des Champs 2023
After training at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune and completing his military service, Jean- Marc joined his father, Jean Pillot, in 1985, making his first vintage in new premises in the industrial zone close to Chagny in 1991. He has increased his domaine since then from five hectares to 11 hectares. Jean-Marc’s son Antonin has now joined the business.
Mix of domaine grapes from Chassagne-Montrachet and Côte Chalonnaise, with purchased grapes from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits and below Puligny. This has been the typical blend since 2019.
Polished nose, white florals and oscillating orchard fruit between yellow and white hues, punchy saline, chalk and melon ball. Classically old school in a way, but with a vibrancy and poise of a modern expression - there's a lot of wine here, weighty and textural, and really well managed, judicious oak. Delightfully drinkable and the continuation of Antonin's rise as a young gun of Burgundy taking his family Domaine in the right direction.
More lemon than lime in colour, vigorous fresh fruit. Apples with some melon at the edges, very come hither and good length. Drink from 2025-2027. - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
