22 year old vineyard from Summertown - 450 to 620m above sea level on light loamy clay over sandstone soils with extensive schist and quartz rubble.
100% whole cluster pressed and settled in tank overnight. Racked to neutral French barriques and hogsheads for eight months maturation.
New vineyard this year - and Gareth just loves Sauvignon Blanc! I'm reticent to blow the hyperbole horn on this one too hard, but there is significant quality here reminiscent of the great producers of Sancerre and the limestone freshness of Menetou Salon. There's this phenomenal thread of exotic fruit here that stays in this flickering green light of kiwi fruit and South-East Asian fruits like yellow star fruit and a little kaffir lime, more so than the traditional loads of passionfruit you get out of the surrounding Adelaide Hills subregions. Excellent texture and drive that culminates in lovely fanning acidity and a little phenolic uptick, giving this length and somewhat of an endpoint to finish on. Insanely drinkable - this is genuinely up there with the Caillottes bottling from Cotat for me, and something you need to get your hands on, this is a turning point for where we can take this variety in South Australia!
