Gentle Folk Village Pinot Noir 2025

From 8 vineyards, 9 clones and vines aged between 5-37 years old. Planted on an array of expositions from 500 to 620m above sea level, on light loamy clay over sandstone soils with extensive schist and quartz rubble.

Mostly 20% whole cluster open top fermentation for three weeks, but the blend includes some shorter macerated 100%-whole-bunch fermentation barrels. Eight months in French oak barriques and puncheons, 15% new.

This sells out every year and we turn around half way through May and wish we'd bought more. So we did! Very much an expression of Hills Pinot Noir and I feel as though this is as good as any in terms of its balance of fruit density and polish. There's pops of transparent blackcurrant jelly crystals intertwined with darker more bramble tones, pomegranate and some pink lifted fruit - it's an absolute mélange of red and black fruits of the forest - but it also represents this density of fruit that can only come from exceptionally balanced fruit. Too often we see cropped, washed out fruit or overtly dense and over the top ripe expressions coming from the hills, this does none of that and is in the top handful of expressions that are open and delicious but showcase proper balance. The oak is present and judicious, fruit neither swamped or dominated, showing fanning texture and great structure. Excellent expression of Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir - and plenty in stock for the year!!
