Gentle Folk Piccadilly Chardonnay 2025

A new vineyard us (but an old vineyard for the region) in Summertown in the heart of the Piccadilly Valley. The nose leaps out the glass with melon, peach and beautifully integrated oak. There is a super density with the pallet to complete the package and the wine just screams out drinking pleasure.

Clones: I10V1, Mendoza and G9V7

Elevation: 560m

Aspect: North-South

Soil: Light loamy clay over sandstone with extensive schist and quartz rocks and rubble

Vinification: Whole bunches were crushed and pressed into to tank for settling overnight before racking off solids to barrel. The wine spent 12 months in French oak, 25% new, before racking to tank for three months and bottled.

The Piccadilly bottling is routinely what I'd call the goldilocks of the three Chardonnay releases - sitting between the drive and tension of Scary Gully and the flair and power seen with Basket Range. It's arguably the most 'showy' in that it carries a lovely lick of reduction and beautifully balanced judicious wood that frames a core of white orchard fruit, punchy, pithy lime zest and a mealiness that's incredibly appealing. Texturally, there's a an elegance here that feels pinpoint in it's accuracy - plush enough for the fruit to play the main role with defined power, yet chiselled enough to carry a fine line of acidity through the core. Phenolics always play a role and finish with a beautifully fanning line at the back of the palate. As always drop dead gorgeous Adelaide Hills Chardonnay!
