Gentle Folk Basket Range Chardonnay 2025
The second release from our 1.85 ha block in on the steep slopes of Basket Range where the northerly aspect and deep clay soils result in a wine with boldness and texture. It’s not just about the bold flavours, there is a beautiful stone fruit and spearmint character this vintage, flint, struck match and a hint of oak that balances out a super line of acid. It has got flare and personality and is sure to turn heads.

Soil: Light loamy clay over sandstone with extensive schist and quartz rubble.
Vinification: Whole bunches were pressed to tank for settling over night before racking off heavy solids to barrel. The wine spent 12 months in French oak, 25% new, before racking to tank for three months and then bottled.

This a sensational follow up to the first release in 2024 - a belter of a wine, reminiscent of some of the great young burgundies coming out of the Maconnais and the modern Meursault producers. It's fully of mealy lime blossom, yellow peach, white chocolate, glacial undertones - a mouthful of generous fruit, with an undercarriage of flint and tension. There's a decided generosity here coming from the combination of elevation and denser clay soils, yet it's balanced gracefully, with a deft touch on the finish that's fanning and alluring. Thirst-quenchingly crushable and delicious!
