80% of the vineyards are organic, the grapes are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed (which is rare in Muscadet), ferments are wild, and there's no sulfur until post-fermentation. While the wines express their sense of place, there's excellent concentration, clarity of fruit and finely managed structure. While expressions of Clisson can sometimes be a little ripe and lack the definition that you're looking for from Muscadet, the Pepière team manage to capture the cru's flesh with fine tension, which is a winning combination.

First produced in 1988, the Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet "Briords Vieilles Vignes" is made from a three hectare parcel of old massale-selection vines (all over 60 years old, with a high percentage much older) on a slope above the Maine. The bedrock is Granite de Château Thébaud, a fissured rock that allows the vines to penetrate deeply, with ideal thin topsoils of clay with sand and gravel allowing good drainage.

Super pure and vibrant with lemon zest, white florals, bath salt, chalk dust and just this little exotic nod toward lemonade icy pole and clear honey. It's electric through the middle, with this punchy, zest core of tensile acidity, that wraps an elegant wreath of texture around it - with nashi pear, white radish, white pepper and a lovely porcelain like grace. Deliciously smashable, but with enough complexity to wow!
