Domaine de la Chapelle Macon Solutre Pouilly 2024
Since the end of the 19th century the Domaine de la Chapelle has been based in Pouilly and run by the Rollet family. Their 7.65ha are now run by Catherine and Pascal Rollet, having taken over in 1981. The family farm and produce wines from three villages in the Maconnais - Saint Veran, Pouilly-Fuisse and Macon Solutre Pouilly. Vines are on average 50-60 years of age with some older parcels ageing 100 years.
From 1.45ha of Macon-Solutre- Pouilly, farmed organically, on fossil-rich clay-limestone marl slopes. Hand harvested, with an incredibly slow press that lasts up to 18 hours, then fermented using indigenous yeasts and temperature control to manage a cooler ferment in older neutral French oak.
Very pure and elegant nose of Jonathon and granny smith apples, baking spice, yellow orchard fruit and a little clear, saline honey. Chiselled and firm on the palate, this is tensile and driven through the mid, almost mineral water-esque and finishes briny and chalky with an almost tonic bitters pithiness.
