Domaine Cruchandeau Bourgogne Aligote 2022
Scintillating wines from Julien Cruchendeau now based in Chaux in the Hautes Cote above Nuits St Georges.
His fascination with Aligote started in Bouzeron, working for a domain in 2001, learning the nuances of the variety in its championed appellation. From there he crossed paths with Aubert de Villaine of Romanee Conti and Domain de Villaine fame, intrigued with his massale selection planting. In 2003 he setup shop next door to Aubert in Bouzeron, taking a parcel of older vines 270 metres above sea level on white marly soils.
Flush with the success of his Bouzeron 'Massale', Julien took on a substantial parcel of Aligote when he set up in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits in 2009. From here he bottles his Bourgogne Aligote ‘Champ de Chene’ – a 30 year old single vineyard in the hills 320m above Nuits St Georges undergoing organic conversion – this is more fruit driven and sinewy, with a lovely tension and suppleness framed by beautiful wood spice.
