It is exceptionally rare to happen upon a new Burgundy domaine that is both set for greatness and firmly under the radar in equal measure. Domaine Coquard Loison-Fleurot (CLF) is such a property, however given they enjoy an enviable collection of six Grand Cru vineyards, and the exceptional winemaking skills shown by the talented Thomas Colladot, CLF won't remain hidden for long. For many years the grapes from the property were sold to negociants, however as these contracts begun to expire in the early 2000's they started taking back the production, and brought on Thomas Colladot in 2010 to oversee winemaking duties.

While not certified, organic practices are used in the vineyards, with all fruit hand harvested and whole cluster fermentation used where and as desired depending on the plot and vintage conditions. New oak varies between 30-50% for most wines, and élevage lasts between 15 and 18 months, before bottling is conducted in-house. The wines of Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot are characterised by their purity and transparency of their terroirs. This Morey Saint Denis is sourced from the lieu-dit of Les Crais Gillon, Clos Solon, En Seuvrey and Corvée Creunille.

Ripe and very fresh liqueur-like aromas speak of dark berries, newly turned earth and a hint of spiced tea. There is very good richness to the appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors that possess a caressing texture, all wrapped in an intensely saline-suffused finish that offers just a bit more overall depth. Blended with 20% whole-bunch fruit, the 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Village has an enticing mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, touches of iodine and sea spray developing with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, fine salinity and great precision and poise on the finish. Très Morey, très bon. Drink 2024 - 2038. 90-92 points Neal Martin - Vinous
