Clos Cibonne Tradition Rose 2023

Absolute pioneers of the rare variety of Tibouren,  an ancient variety of Mesopotamian roots, via Greece then Italy and making its way into a designated variety in the Cotes de Provence AOP.

During phylloxera era Claude Deforge’s great grandfather planted it close to the sea near Toulon. It historically was a difficult variety, uneven yields and high disease pressure made it an easy variety to dismiss in a post phylloxera world, yet this proximity to Mediterranean sea breezes helps mitigate historical issues.

The family now have 16 hectare of vineyard, including Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre under vine - however it’s the Tibouren that’s the star - producing saline and textural Rose expressions, aged under a thin veil of flor yeast in 100yo, 5000L wooden foudres.

It’s salty, chalky and above all down right delicious and perfect for our belting summers. Get in while the weather is still pumping and introduce everyone to what is quintessentially the most individualistic rose in the world!
