Bilancia Trelinnoe Chardonnay 2024
The Roys Hill hillside is predominantly sandstone over limestone with clone UCD15 Chardonnay planted on the terraces. The fruit was 100% hand-picked, then whole bunch pressed to French oak barriques for fermentation. The wine was fermented with indigenous yeast and then spent 11 months in oak prior to bottling; there was no fining or cold stabilisation.
The 2024 Trelinnoe Chardonnay is a two-and-a-half-barrel blend from the Trellinoe vineyard. The terraces were damaged in the 2023 cyclone, and the yields are extremely low. The wine is linear and tightly coiled, wrapped around a core of briny acidity. White peach, preserved lemon rind, crispy green apple and a spice mix of fennel/clove/star anise lace the perimeter.
