Bilancia Kaikora Vineyard Chardonnay 2023
Quite a funky struck match thing here, though not without the crisp green apple, fresh pineapple and kiwi fruit flavour. It’s a bit smoky and quite juicy, lots of tang and energy, almost a mescal thing happening here, though again, juicy flavour carries it long. Intense, with a crisp finish of fine and sappy length. Charismatic and very distinct in personality. I like this very much. Top shelf. Kind of dirty, but in the nicest possible way. Yum. 94 Poins - Gary Walsh
Bilancia is a small Hawke's Bay producer of exceptional Chardonnay, Viognier/Marsanne/Roussanne and Syrah. It is the label of winemakers Lorraine Leheny and Warren Gibson and was established in 1997 when Lorraine and Warren returned to New Zealand from winemaking overseas. The first wines were released in mid 1998 and the first la collina Syrah in 2002. 2023 Bilancia Chardonnay was sourced from three Hawke’s Bay vineyards; two at Roys Hill; la collina and Trelinnoe, and one from Central Hawke’s Bay, Kaikora, at Ōtāne.
