Bekkers McLaren Vale Grenache 2022
Not far from the McLaren Vale township lies a vineyard of old, dry-grown Grenache where Bekkers source a tiny parcel of terrific fruit from these old warriors. To this backbone they add three small parcels from vineyards in Kangarilla, Blewitt Springs, Onkaparinga Hills. Grenache from these higher elevation parts of the valley deliver fragrance and pretty aromatics.
In this Grenache they searched for Indian spice (cloves, cumin and star anise), fragrance and pretty aromatics. It shows Grenache's clarity of fruit. It's no shrinking violet though, and has the capacity to age beautifully.
Medium deep colour. Pure dark plum, musky, dark cherry, raspberry, strawberry aromas with violet, Turkish delight notes. Supple and fleshy with lovely pure fruit flavours, slinky textures, very good mid-palate viscosity and plenty of mineral length. A sweet-fruited finish with a touch of aniseed.
