Open vat and static tank fermentation with an average of 24 days on skins. An assortment of the ferments in open vats and tank with 4 day pre-ferment maceration.15% whole bunches and 40% whole berries utilised in the ferments. Aged in 25% new French barriques and puncheons for 12 months followed by 6 months in older oak.

Red/crimson to the rim. A bouquet of red fruits with plums and dark cherries showing along with savoury toasty oak. Youthful fruit flavours marry to meaty notes and light herbaceous whole bunch characters. Shows an elegant and fine frame of tannins as they guide the palate to a long and sustained finish. Needs time but all the components are there to amply reward cellaring whilst beautifully balanced for current drinking.

Aged 14 months in French and American barriques and puncheons (30% new) followed by four months in older oak. Balgownie is a shiraz specialist, bringing a sense of individuality to each incarnation. Sunny in disposition and warm-hearted in style. Plum and mulberry aromatics ignite with nutmeg, cinnamon, licorice and vanilla. Layers of flavour entwine nicely with well-placed vanillin oak and well-crafted tannins. The winemaker has given the fruit his best attention. It shows.
