Antoine Jobard Beaune 1Er Montrevenots 2021
A very high-altitude, rocky site, Montrevenots is at the top of the hill on the Pommard boundary, above Clos des Mouches. It’s a south-facing slope, which to some extent mitigates the vineyard’s altitude. The white clay, limestone soils here tend to deliver red fruit notes, raciness and powdery, fine structure to the palate.
At this stage, Jobard’s Montrevenots is a tiny cuvée, cropped from just one tenth of the 1.40-hectares the domaine has available. This is because Antoine is replanting the lion’s share of this site with more suitable rootstock and better massale selections. The parcel in play is historically known as the Clos des Montrevenots and the vines that gifted this wine are 45 years old. In terms of the winemaking, Antoine fully destems all his reds, and the grapes are given a five-day cold soak prior to fermentation. There is very little new oak, and the wine was bottled after 12 months.
