A Christmann Vogelsang Riesling GG 2020
The beautiful winery and home of the Christmann family can be found in the town of Gimmeldingen. This quaint little village is in the centre of the Mittelhaart of the Pfalz, about an hour from Frankfurt & half an hour from Strasbourg, in the Palantine, that lies on the Rhine River and connects Alsace in the north to Rheinhessen in the south.
Christmann's 2020 Vogelsang Neustadt Riesling Grosse Lage is the first release of this steep cru that the family bought three years before. The wine opens with a coolish and lime-fresh bouquet of crushed stones and lemons. It is remarkably cool and fresh for the vintage, which comes through on the palate. Here, the wine shows super-ripe and intense fruit, whereas the coolish and saline limestone terroir comes out only on the finish with fresh and lemon-scented acidity and long, mouthwatering salinity. There are fine tannins and bitters on the aftertaste. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 2022. Very bright and uplifting nose with delicate dried-flower aromas. Lots of depth and structure, but also very polished. In spite of the power and mineral backbone, it’s quite sleek at the very long and complete finish. The first vintage of this GG! From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification.
