I’ve had some to and fro on Instagram with winemaker Simon Caica (Kai-Kerr) over the years, so when I saw he’d released some of his own wines, I encouraged/bullied him to send them in for review. His press release had a one way flight to from Adelaide to Kalgoorlie printed on the bottom half, which is where he thinks he’s headed if he gets a low scoring review. Funny. I’m just a simple fellow who reviews some wine, so he’d be better off with a ticket to Sydney to knock some sense into me. Anyway, this is from the Lennon Vineyard, gets 30% whole bunch, held on skins for 10 days, and popped into old barrels for seven months. I did my own bottle image, which is nice of me, aside from liking the label design. Then I worked out he has a website, with a bottle image there, but I’ve done it now. So.

Well here’s a delightful lighter bodied red offering fresh red berries, plenty of spice and white pepper, a smattering of dried herb, with slightly bloody/meaty flavours. It’s frisky and cranberry fresh, a light dusty grip to tannin, some blood orange tang  with a lively finish of excellent length. It puts me in mind of Peleverga for its charm and spicy character, so obviously it’s a style I really enjoy. So lovely. Recommended. Do it. 93 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
