Praeter Vino Rosso 2021
Praeter was started by Matt Large in 2018 after his first vintage working in Barolo the year prior. It was born from a desire to explore and attempt to understand Nebbiolo in Australia’s soil and climate, but since Praeter’s establishment it has developed into a lens through which Matt has been able to select and celebrate choice parcels of fruit from special vineyards in both Australia and Italy
50% Syrah, 30% Petit Verdot, 20% Nebbiolo from the vineyards of Luigi Oddero in La Morra, Barolo. Comprised of two co-ferments - Syrah and Nebbiolo (20% Whole Bunch) and Petit Verdot and Nebbiolo (100% destemmed). A beguiling and unique meeting of non-standard varieties and the soils of one of the great wine regions of the world. Matured in used barrique for 14 months before blending and bottling. 2021 was a stand-out growing season for the Langhe, the third in a trilogy of great years. Yields in 2021 mean the most Syrah dominant of the Vino Rosso so far.
