Patrick Sullivan Bullswamp Chardonnay 2023

The Bull Swamp vineyard was planted in 1982 by the Farrington family on the very edge of the Warragul township.  The Bull Swamp Chardonnay comes from the older plantings of the P58 clone on a north facing aspect of the site.  Deep rich volcanic soils nourish the dry grown grape vines. Elevation at 100m, this section of the vineyard receives the least amount of airflow relative to the estate's other sites, with the northerly aspect providing full sunlight and exposure, resulting in powerful and rich fruit.

Theres a slightly more chiselled aromatic profile here, suggesting a bit more tenacity and power, a mineral core framed by the weighted, more powerful secondary aromatics of white peach, wood spice, acacia and an overall level of class aromatically. There’s an energy on the palate, its vibrating, coiled but lets say the levels it is vibrating at are a bit wider, rather than tensile. Theres a cooling, purity on the fruit profile, with high toned mint and river water through the mid, and a touch more extract on the finish. Pure class!
