Oria Riff Old Vine Semillon Dry White 2024
The fruit for this wine comes from vines planted in the 1960s. Farmed by lauded, organic-biodynamic focused viticulturist Fiona Wood. The fruit was pressed and sent to old oak and an egg, naturally fermented. There’s something special about this producer. This is almost un-semillon-like in a way, but you kind of say ‘hang the varietal characters’ and just get stuck in for its compelling nature.
Gosh, I just straight up love this wine. It’s got that saline, textural feel that has me hounding the glass. A hazy apple juice kind of vibe but with preserved lemon, brined green olive, some light nougat elements, green almond, ginger. While the texture heads into plushness the chalky fringes graze the palate to a good, crisp reset and the finish trickles away on brine and saline mineral tang. Aromatically, floral, lemony, sea spray, nuts. It’s glorious, compelling, delicious. 94 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
