From the Old Kent River vineyard, 1985 plantings. 30% whole bunch. I think I passed on reviewing the last vintage, because I recall thinking it was pretty ghastly, though this one is very good. And, yes, it does have something of a Baden or Pfalz thing happening, more towards the latter I’d say.
Cherries – black and red, earthy and nutty, a little dark spice and thyme. It’s savoury, spicy and nutty, with gentle grip to tannin, a subtle sappy freshness, even some strawberry, and a finish of good length. Has character, and I like it. 93 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
